9/11 SE Memorial Committee is creating a short documentary highlighting structural engineer’s expert knowledge, collective memory, and resources which ensured the success of the heroic recovery effort after 9/11. The intended audience for this film includes students, young professionals, and the general public.

The Awards Committee oversees the nomination and judging process of submissions for the annual Structural Engineering Excellence (SEE) Awards.

The Codes Advisory Committee provides information to members regarding changes in codes. It also makes recommendations for amendments to the codes which would incorporate new developments in various aspects of the design of structures.

The Diversity Committee mission is to advocate for inclusion and advancement of women and minorities in the structural engineering community, raise awareness about the challenges they face in the professional workplace, and propose solutions through worker-friendly, equitable policies. Our vision is a more diverse and inclusive community with better collaboration in the workplace and longer-term employee retention. We hold events and provide resources for our membership to support these goals.

The Membership Committee encourages those in the practice of structural engineering and allied professionals to become members of the association. It also maintains the member directory and liaison connection with member firms, develops recommendations to improve member benefits, and organizes social networking events such as President’s Breakfast Roundtable and member happy hours.

The Programs Committee plans meetings and workshops and arranges for the annual meeting. This includes selecting the event date and venue, and preparing all announcements and mailings in conjunction with the event.

The Publications Committee collects appropriate news and other material for inclusion in the SEAoNY Newsletter. This includes editing, printing and distributing the Newsletter.

The Resilience Committee seeks to provide a multidisciplinary collaboration platform to formulate recommendations and innovations to enhance resilience in the built environment.

The Scholarship Committee (SEAoNY Education Fund) was established with the goal of encouraging young people to enter the structural engineering profession by supporting area college and university students studying structural engineering. Since then, we have been able to expand our goals thanks to industry generosity. We also award scholarships to graduating high school students from the Urban Assembly School for Design and Construction and support the Center for Architecture Foundation.

The Structural Engineering (SE) Licensure Committee is responsible for strategic planning towards the implementation of an SE practice Act in New York.

The Structural Engineering Emergency Response (SEER) Committee organizes, trains, coordinates, and advocates for structural engineer second-responders who assist with damage and safety assessments.

The Small Practice Engineering Committee (SPEC) promotes the congregation of small business owners and managers to share resources and discuss common challenges encountered by small practice structural firms in New York City.

The Student Outreach Committee promotes professional development for students interested in structural engineering by organizing interactive events ranging from the annual Structure Quest to resume and interview workshops. The Student Outreach Committee makes ongoing efforts to give students and universities the opportunity to network with professionals of SEAoNY and integrate students into the structural engineering community.

The Sustainable Design Committee aligns with the SE2050 program to target the reduction of embodied carbon and ultimately achieve net zero. We aim to increase the number of New York firms officially committed to SE2050, distribute information about sustainability updates in the AEC industry, and add the structural engineering community’s voice into legislative changes that are guiding the industry towards a sustainable future.

SEAoNY’s Young Member Group is an assembly of SEAoNY members dedicated to easing the transition of students and young engineers into successful, professional engineers and future leaders of the structural engineering profession. Our goal is to host events, lectures and workshops geared towards career development and young member specific topics while promoting structural engineering as a profession.
